Saturday or Sunday, June 5th or 6th, 2010 (the date is up to your team/group to decide upon, in honor of World Ocean Day on the 8th).
All Ocean Sports Enthusiasts can participate 3 hours of clean-up (you decide when you want to do it on the weekend of the 5th or 6th)
Project Kaisei's World Ocean Day events in 2009 were a great success. In Hong Kong, over 10 different groups, of all sports disciplines (diving, paddling, surfing, sailing, and general beach cleanup) were represented. In Sai Kung, over 40 divers from Dive Adventures took to the waters to help clean up some of the ocean seabed. In Lantau, the children on the beach were joined by kitesurfers to help clean up the surrounding coastline. In Stanley, five outrigger canoes, and one dragon boat, brought back over half a ton of debris in just one hour. This debris was then sorted by the students at the Hong Kong Sea School the following day in order to determine what types of debris were collected, and to better understand where it might be coming from, and how its volume could be reduced from the community in the future. Friends in Japan at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour pitched in to help with their local cleaning on the day, and in Santa Barbara, California, there were divers and beach cleaners with a function at Dons Net Cafe on their "Hot Day" that promoted Project Kaisei.

Click on one of the flyers for your sport to see how you can participate with your club/team (or individual) on the weekend before World Ocean Day (June 6/7th). The goal is to have people become stewards of ocean protection, and proud of protecting their local waters. If money can be raised from donations, grants or pledges, the goal would be to donate 50% of that money to a local charity of your choice, and 50% to Project Kaisei for its global efforts to clean some of the North Pacific Gyre, and to bring awareness to the problem of ocean garbage.
Photos of some of the events are included. We look forward to your help to make this much larger global event for 2010's World Ocean Day!
